Event at Towner celebrating sheer genius of Oscar Wilde
The event will be held on Sunday October 7 from 2pm.
The literary world marks Wilde’s 156th birthday this year. Eastbourne Arts Circle has organised an event that will show the breadth of his literary output, touching upon his poetry, his plays, his witticisms, and his life. Born in Dublin, he wrote such masterpieces as The Picture Of Dorian Grey, and The Importance Of Being Ernest, but was famously imprisoned for his homosexuality and later died in exile in Paris.
This event will celebrate the flamboyance of his ideas and way of life, his genius, his ability to mesmerise his listeners when he read his short stories and his outrageous dress. The French writer Andre Gide commented: “Wilde did not converse, he told tales.”
