The aim is to provide them with affordable retail opportunities in closed-down shops or underused spaces once lockdown lifts.

Organiser Tillie Peel said: “We take empty spaces and make them beautiful – not just aesthetically, but through the values we champion; sustainability, diversity, uniqueness and affordability.

“We believe in supporting the power of local small businesses, low-risk spaces to help artists, makers and emerging brands nurture and grow their businesses.

“This second lockdown has impacted us hugely. We had our bags packed ready to go to set up the shop when the announcement was made.

“November is a crucial month for retail and many businesses have been patiently waiting for it. We were supporting 40 creatives from Brighton and all over the UK to showcase their work in The Lanes for six weeks. We have had half that time taken away from us.

“After months of planning, our vendors have busy making, investing their time and money into stock ready for our November launch and we are just gutted for them.

“However, we are keen to push with full steam ahead for December 3. The small business community is stronger than ever and the appetite to support and shop local bigger than ever. We can't wait to open the doors to Brighton, being one of our favourite creative cities in the UK.”

The Pop-Up location is 6 Dukes Lane, opening on December 3 and running until December 24.

“In the meantime, we have created an online directory on our website where you can find all the businesses taking part in our pop-ups this Christmas and their fabulous online shops so we can all continue to support during lockdown.”
