FILM REVIEW: Days of Heaven

WITH Terrence Malick’s most recent film The Tree Of Life still playing at selected cinemas, we are treated to a re-release of his 1978 classic.

Bill (Richard Gere) works in a 1916 steel mill where he kills his boss then flees the scene with girlfriend Abby (Brooke Adams) and younger sister Linda (Linda Manz).

For the sake of appearances, Bill and Abby pretend to be brother and sister and the fugitives find work with a kind and gentle farmer (Sam Shepard).

When it transpires that the landowner is dying and has taken a shine to Abby, Bill concocts a scheme to marry off his sweetheart to the farmer so they can inherit the land.

However, the foreman scents foul play and sets about exposing the skulduggery.

Meanwhile, Abby sparks real feelings for her husband to be, creating friction with Bill.
