BUSINESS AWARDS 2015: The hunt is on for the best in business

THERE was a really positive vibe at the launch of the Observer and Gazette business awards.

Interested parties gathered at the University of Chichester last Wednesday night to mark the big occasion.

There were experts on hand to answer questions: Louise Hopkins from the Chichester Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Andrew Moore from Andrew McDowall tailors, Emma Baines from Creations hair and beauty and Rob Beasley from Spofforths LLP chartered accountants.

“We’ve got some phenomenal businesses around here and it’s time we all started shouting louder than we do,” said Louise.

She told the crowd about seven key points entrants should consider:

- Focus on categories that best suited the business,

- Tailor each submission so it suits the relevant category,

- Make sure to substantiate the application by backing it up with evidence,

- Examine the criteria to make sure you get to the root of what the question is asking for,

- Be proud of the submission you have given the judges

- Do not assume, always go into detail as larger employers tend to assume people already know everything about their business

- Finally, if a business does not win this year, do not give up but come back and enter next year.

Observer and Gazette editor-in-chief Gary Shipton encouraged businesses to enter and to spread the word.
