Arundel retirement development partners with Morrisons for next-day doorstep delivery service

The new service at Caen Stone Court, in Queen Street, is a lifeline for those who are vulnerable and shielding, as it means they can order from home by phone and have their goods hand delivered from Morrisons Littlehampton.

It is part of a new partnership between Morrisons and McCarthy & Stone, extending the supermarket’s doorstep delivery service to the nation’s retirement communities through a dedicated telesales line.

Alison Whitburn, Morrisons Littlehampton community champion, said: “This is even more important at the moment, as the vulnerable and those isolating and shielding are in need of this.”

Orders are sent to the Littlehampton store, where Alison is responsible for ensuring the items are picked from the shelves and hand delivered the next day.

Payment is made on receipt of the delivery and first order arrives with a complimentary bunch of flowers.

Alison explained that the partnership is part of her wider role serving the community and said it will enable her to build connections with those in need of help, learn their preferences and support their independence.

Anna Lane, local director at Morrisons, said: “We launched our doorstep service for those who were vulnerable and shielding in the early stages of the pandemic. Customers have since told us it’s been a vital service and that’s why we’re extending the service to new communities, such as McCarthy & Stone’s homeowners.”

Residents in all of McCarthy & Stone’s 441 developments are able to use the Morrisons doorstep delivery service.

David Searle, managing director of services at McCarthy & Stone, said: “The Morrisons doorstep delivery service allows our homeowners to independently get the groceries they need in a simple, convenient way.

“We plan to build even stronger retirement communities with the support of local Morrisons Community Champions and continue to offer a great place to live, for the life you want to live.”

Alison’s work also includes fundraising for charities and in the past three years, she and her colleagues at Littlehampton have raised more than £30,000.

The fundraising continues with a tombola at the store on Saturday, September 26, raising money for CLIC Sargent.
