Butlin's housing homeless people, vulnerable families and paramedics in Bognor Regis

Dozens of homeless people, along with vulnerable families and paramedics, are being housed by Butlin's closed Bognor Regis resort during the coronavirus pandemic.

The holiday provider revealed that, as of today (Tuesday, May 5), it is housing 42 homeless people, two vulnerable families and three paramedics that have returned from retirement to support the NHS.

A spokesperson said: “We are very pleased to be able to support our local community during this difficult time by housing 42 homeless people and two vulnerable families whilst our resort is closed to guests.

"They are all staying in our Atlantic Bay self-catering apartments and receive support from the local council which includes a weekly food delivery.”

This comes after Butlin's extended the closure of all three of its resorts until at least June 7. Read more hereArun District Council confirmed it was working with local businesses to support homeless people during the crisis.

A spokesperson said: "We are working with local hotels, Bed & Breakfast providers and the leisure and tourism industry to ensure that our homeless households and rough sleeping

community have a safe place to stay during this pandemic.

“We are extremely grateful to these providers and voluntary sector partners for working with us to provide accommodation and support to homeless people during these challenging times.”
