The charity has been raising funds to shore up the eroding banks of the canal and 'ensure the towpath and the waterway are safe for the future'.

Thanks to over 60 supporters, nearly £5,000 has been raised within the first three weeks, half of the £10,000 target they set out to raise by December.

Managing director Sam Love, said: “At Hancock and Partners, we are thrilled to be supporting the Chichester Canals’ fundraising campaign to raise funds for the repairs to the banks.

“The canal is a feature point for the City and offers so many opportunities to so many people as well as providing a home to a vast array of wildlife.

"As a keen water sports enthusiast myself, having the canal available for kayakers and paddleboarders is great, enabling individuals to get on to the water, exercise and enjoy the outdoors."

Canal volunteer, Janet Osborne, one of Chichester Canal’s fundraising co-ordinators, said having the support from local businesses is the 'icing on the cake'.

She added: "We are thrilled with the donation from Hancock and Partners.

“The canal has always been a community hub, but the support we have received has shown us just how important the place is to the people of Chichester and the surrounding

area."
