The planning application (20/02434/FUL) was approved by Chichester District Council on December 23 for the Crane Street site.

The salon will replace the former Barnardo's charity shop and will operate from 9am to 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday.

As well as offering a pet grooming service, the site will also offer cologne for pets, dog shampoo, leads and collars.

As part of a statement, the applicant said: "The proposal that is the subject of this application relates to the change of use of the existing building to a dog grooming parlour.

"Whilst the proposed use falls outside the four main Use Classes and is therefore sui generis [in its own category], it does retain the same characteristics of a retail use given that it will be available for customers to book an appointment or walk in and will have a frontage.

"As the proposed floorplans confirm, this application does not propose any changes to the external appearance of the building and it simply seeks to secure planning permission for the change of use only.

"The shopfront and entrance will remain unaltered. Internally the space will be separated to provide a reception area, dog grooming area, drying area and staff room and w/c. The opening hours are proposed as 09:00 – 17:30 Monday to Saturday and initially the unit will employ two full time and one part time member of staff."
