Doddington Aerials proves a success for entrepreneur Chris

WITH the long-awaited full switchover to digital TV due to be enforced by next March, there’s plenty for companies to consider.

One young entrepreneur making his mark is Chris Doddington, whose aerial and satellite business is going from strength-to-strength operating across Worthing and further afield within the county.

The 25-year-old former Brighton College student has greatly enjoyed setting up his own company, Doddington Aerials, which he believes has a bright future after strong initial interest.

He said: “I’d started out studying IT but then I got into the aerial business and just wanted to start my own firm. It is going really well.

“I just love being outdoors and I’ve been spending most of my time up and down ladders. The thing that’s a bit different with my company is the fact that we can do installations in difficult places that require abseiling for the job.

“I had to go on an rope access course which has qualified me to install commercial systems on the side of buildings and residential homes.”

Technician Chris, who lives in Southwick, also revealed there is still a good deal of confusion surrounding the switchover process.

According to recent national reports, one of the key areas of concern has been over customers’ mistaken belief that a form of digital aerial is needed for the upgrade rather than digital set-top boxes.

Chris is more than happy to guide clients through any such issues and said it had been a rewarding challenge getting his firm off the ground.

He added: “There’s still quite a few people out there who seem to be completely oblivious to the changes, which tends to be the case with some of the older generation.

“But we are moving ahead with it to a complete switch for the area by April of next year.

People have to make sure their aerial is good enough – it might need a tweak rather than a full replacement. We will carry out a survey and offer the best advice.

“There’s been plenty of hard graft involved but it’s been well worth it.”
