Clare Palmer, from Littlehampton, was manager at the charity’s Sussex Chichester and District Branch, based in Eartham, for three years from 2015.

She then became business and income generation manager but was made redundant in October, and has since applied for more than 70 jobs without success.

Clare had always wanted to start her own businesses, so she eventually decided to bring forward her plans and set up the pet care service in Littlehampton in July, to cover the town and surrounding areas from Ferring to Yapton, Angmering and Arundel.

Clare said: “I have a huge love of animals from owning two elderly rescue dogs and one elderly cat, and have loved working in the charity sector for the past five years.

“Exciting times are ahead with starting my own business, dog walking and drop-in visits for dogs, cat feeding and other animal care, whether it be away from home for work or pleasure.

“I have a lot of experience with special needs dogs, with both of mine needing specialist care in their golden years. I am a familiar face around the local area, after being the face of Mount Noddy and bringing it back from near closure in 2015.

“I have built relationships with many veterinary practices, behaviourists and trainers in the area and am now going to apply my love for animals and the outdoors by helping to care for other peoples pets.”

The business was named after Clare’s beloved 11-year-old West Highland terrier Pixie, a Mount Noddy rescue. She also has Penny, a mostly blind and toothless crossbreed she ‘took home for retirement two years ago after a life of neglect’.

Miss Pixie’s Pets offers solo and compatible dog walks and home visits for all sorts of pets, where the animal’s welfare is priority.
