Roots & Hoots wants to make it ‘convenient’ and ‘affordable’ for people to cut down on single-use plastic.

The company delivers eco-friendly food, drink, household and beauty essentials straight to people’s doorsteps via emission-free electric vehicles.

It currently delivers to the following locations in West Sussex: Worthing, Shoreham, Littlehampton, Chichester, Arundel, Lancing, Steyning, Henfield, Hassocks, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath.

Everything comes in durable and reusable plastic-free packaging, from oats in quality cotton bags to shampoo in glass bottles or even spices in metal tins.

Once customers decant or use up their products, they can order again or regularly schedule a convenient time for the containers to be picked up.

These are then thoroughly cleaned using eco-friendly sanitising agents ready for the next order.

Roots & Hoots was founded by Shiv Misra and Ram Krishnan, who both have experience in the field.

Shiv was the founder and owner of the vegan and organic supermarket Kindly of Brighton, and Ram Krishnan runs a successful tech start-up innovating food waste recycling systems.

Shiv Misra, Director of Roots & Hoots, said: “Roots & Hoots philosophy is born out of the need for accessible and affordable ways to reduce single use plastic usage, lessen your impact and even live a zero-waste lifestyle.

“We saw some businesses offer products that lowered your plastic-use but it never was convenient or cheap.

“We wanted to create an easy solution that provides an option to those who want to move to a plastic-free and zero-waste lifestyle, without the disruption or complication.

“We hope that we can play our part in encouraging more people to think twice about how their purchases affect the environment.

“We need more small businesses like ours to force the large grocers to move towards a sustainable model.”

Orders of £20 and over qualify for free delivery, and orders up to the value of £19.99 are charged a flat delivery rate of £4.99.
