OBSERVER AND GAZETTE BUSINESS AWARDS: Chamber of Commerce puts its weight behind awards

“As the prime business organisation in the district, we felt it made sense for us to join forces with the Observer and Gazette Business Awards to herald good business in the area,” she said.

“Many winners in the past have been Chichester Chamber of Commerce members and there is a natural affinity between us as organisations.”

On why the awards are so important, she said: “Business is hard enough in the current economy and so when a company achieves a goal, or focuses more on their staff or customers, they should be recognised for the extra effort they’re making.

“It is also our ambition, in being associated with the Observer and Gazette Business Awards, that we can jointly change and tighten the criteria over time, to ensure the right businesses are being recognised for the right achievements.”

Ms Fenwick also believes winning and award gives businesses a great boost.

“From a public relations perspective, businesses which win awards gain additional exposure within the local media and it is certainly something to proudly declare to customers and suppliers.

“Internally, winning an award can generate an amazing sense of team spirit among employees and it often helps to bridge any gaps between management and staff.

“We actually encourage our members to take tables at the awards ceremony to invite and host their staff, as it’s a good and fun way to say thank you to them for their hard work.”

Chichester Chamber of Commerce and Industry represents organisations of all sizes in and around Chichester district on commercial, economic and business issues.

Members range from micro-businesses and sole traders to larger organisations including Rolls Royce and Goodwood – all of whom see the benefit of keeping abreast of issues that affect their businesses, premises and staff.
