Western Sussex Hospitals Trust is recruiting in all departments and at all levels with open days at St Richard’s Hospital on October 1 and Worthing Hospital on October 8.

The Trust, which also operates Southlands Hospital in Shoreham, was recently rated ‘outstanding’ by care quality inspectors.

Vacancies are available for 20 apprentices, with many more to launch in 2017, along with admin clerks, medical secretaries, pharmacists, therapists, eye surgeons and nurses across a range of specialities.

It is hoped the open days will give people the change to learn about what the teams do and talk to people about specific roles available.

Jennie Shore, deputy director of human resources for the trust said: “It’s no secret that hospital trusts across the NHS are looking for staff and that’s also true at Western Sussex Hospitals.

“Since the CQC published its report, we feel we have a stronger offer for new recruits.

“We’re extremely proud that we are able to offer varied and rewarding careers, not just jobs.

People genuinely love working for the NHS.

“This year, 42 employees are celebrating 30 years’ service and another nine are celebrating 40 years. We feel that’s a strong endorsement of the Trust as an employer.

“Whether you’re an experienced healthcare professional or looking for a new career, Western Sussex Hospitals could be just the place for you to achieve your career goals.”

Sarah Harrison joined Worthing Hospital 13 years ago as a healthcare assistant.

She has recently completed her nursing degree through the Open University.

Her course was funded and fully supported by the Trust. Sarah is now a staff nurse in the eye clinic.

Sarah said: “I’ve stayed so long here because the Trust really cares about its patients.

“I was a healthcare assistant for about nine years before I saw the advert inviting staff to take up training.

“My line manager encouraged me to go for it and was very supportive. I’m here for the patients.

“At the moment, I’m enjoying being newly qualified, but I already know that I want to become a nurse practitioner.

“I definitely feel as though I’ve found my niche and I’m going to take every opportunity that comes along.”

The first open day will be in the Chichester Medical Education Centre at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester on October 1 from 10am to 3pm.
