Purchases Restaurant, run by the Sussex Food Company, has taken over 31 North Street in the place of Amelie and Friends, which closed ‘due to Brexit’ earlier this year.

The ‘modern European style’ menu will be available from 11.30am seven days a week, with a bar boasting fine wines by the glass open until 11pm Monday to Saturday.

Manager Danny Bullock said the extensively refurbished restaurant had already had some trusted visitors for a trial run.

“It’s beautiful in there. We’ve definitely created a warmth,” he said.

“We’ve had a few friends and family in, sometimes it hasn’t been all friends or family, but it’s still had a fantastic soul to the restaurant, it’s had a real buzz, so we’re really looking forward to filling it up over the weekends and over the years.”

Among the team is head chef Craig Mustard, who Danny described as a ‘rising star’.

The bar staff are trained in cocktail making and the company has ambitions to expand to offering a B&B service next year, with food served all day.

Reservations are no longer being taken for this Saturday evening, but places are being held for people to drop in.
