South Downs Holiday Village closure '˜devastates' residents
'˜A loss of social history' is how people have been describing the news that South Downs Holiday Village is closing.
This came after a spokesperson from Richardson’s, who owns the park, confirmed the site had been sold and will be shutting on January 2.
Dawn Gracie held her first ‘vintage weekender’ at the venue this year – an event where guest could come and relive the holiday village hey-day in a weekend of old vintage fun.
However, Dawn has been left shocked after discovering the news of the closure.
She said: “I have been working so hard to make next year’s weekend even better.
“I got a phone call from the boss saying we have just been told it has been sold and it will be closed in the new year – I was absolutely mortified.”
Dawn Gracie added that she does not know who has bought the site, but the possibility of a developer knocking down ‘a piece of social history’ has left her ‘devastated’.
“I am gutted for Bracklesham,” Dawn said.
“If something like housing is put in its place I am not sure how the infrastructure will cope.”
Dawn said that she had already booked her slot at the park for 2017.
“I have tried so hard to put the peninsula on the map for night life.
“I have done my best to revive the life of the peninsula so now this has happened I am devastated.
“I have been doing this for the good of my city, I am sad for the loss of the social history.”
A holiday goer from South Downs Holiday Park, who asked not to be named, said: “A lot of people have been saying its a real shame that it is closing.
“We have only been here for a few days but it’s a lovely place.”
The Observer approached Richardson’s for a further comment on the closure, however they declined to provide any statement or information other than the closure date.
