The Anchor Inn, in Selsey Road, has been purchased by 'experienced operators' Matthew and Victoria Becker, who have 'known the pub for many years'. The siblings also own The Beresford in Middleton-on-Sea, among others in Portsmouth, Southsea and Farnborough.

They said: "We are very excited about getting The Anchor. We are looking forward to establishing it as a great food and drink venue, keeping the feel of a typical country pub, but with a lot of internal and external improvements.

"We have grown up in pubs so it is in our blood and, even in these challenging and uncertain times, we’re determined to make this very successful.

"We would like to thank Nick Earee from Fleurets for all his assistance and hard work in making this happen for us."

Acting on behalf of the vendor, Merlin Inns, managing director Tony Matthews thanked Nick Earee, divisional director at [chartered surveyor] Fleurets, for his efforts to complete the freehold sale 'in these challenging times'.

A spokesperson for Fleurets said: "This character village pub occupies a prominent site about four miles south of Chichester within a very popular area with a number of visitor attractions and prestigious venues including Goodwood, Chichester Harbour and Chichester Golf Club."
