A spokesman confirmed the estate had been working on plans to gradually reopen West Wittering beach to support social distancing measures.

These plans will be announced in the coming weeks, the spokesman said.

However in the meantime, the beach will remain closed.

A spokesman said: “The safety of our staff, visitors and local community is our utmost priority and over the past few weeks we’ve been working on plans to gradually reopen the beach to support social distancing.

“We will be announcing our plans in the coming weeks, however in the meantime we remain closed until we update that it’s safe to reopen.

“We therefore kindly ask visitors to not visit the beach or in any circumstances park in the local community to do so.”

The spokesman said any reopening of the beach would be ‘gradual and phased’.

In addition, arrangements for visitors will be different.

The spokesman said: “Other than for pass holders, we will be controlling the number of cars that can park at the beach at any one time.

“Visitors will need to pre-book through an online system and once we have reached parking capacity on the app, bookings will close.

“This will allow us to ensure effective social distancing.

“Based on experience, we can estimate how many pass holders to expect so will allow for this in setting the daily limits.

“Further details of these new arrangements will follow with instructions on how to use the app.”
