Councillors, governors and the MP Nick Gibb were given a special tour of Felpham Community College’s new building to celebrate the completion of the project.

The official opening of the Blake Building was held on Friday afternoon and was also attended by staff, students and contractors. An opening ceremony was led by Ken Lloyd, the chairman of governors at the school in Felpham Way, and Mr Gibb, the MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton. The new Blake Building houses state-of-the-art classrooms and facilities for subjects including business and vocational studies, music, drama, IT, modern languages and technology.

The new drama studio houses a sound and lighting system, including a sound proofed control booth, and has space for an audience of 150. There are three music classrooms equipped with iMacs, six music practice rooms and a fully equipped recording studio. The technology classrooms house 3D design, food technology and textiles and feature equipment such as a double-deck pizza oven, a sublimation printer and laser cutter. All classrooms within the building have new interactive whiteboards and the building also houses a large conference room for meetings. A school spokesman said: “Students and staff have settled in well to the new facilities and the official opening was a chance for people to tour the finished building and to celebrate the completed project.” As well as the Blake Building, the college also opened two new science labs at the end of the summer term. The PE block has been extended and new bike sheds have been installed. The final phase will be to improve the open areas and playgrounds around the building.
