Get away from it all in the coastal village of Middleton-on-Sea

It is believed that in the early 1800s the village of Middleton-on-Sea only had six houses in the parish which went up to 19 in 1841.

The house count has now grown considerably and it is a bustling village with a number of shops and businesses.

“It has got Middleton Sports Club and Tennis club,” explained Natasha Whitlock, director of Whitlocks Estate Agents in Nyetimber.

“St Nicholas Church, Shrubbs playing field, an amazing fish and chip shop and Chinese take away, Elmer beach is also very close by and renowned for being a beautiful beach.”

Along the coast to the east of Bognor Regis, Middleton-on-Sea’s beach is generally seen to be used by residents for dog walking while some of it can only be accessed by foot.

The beach is one of the qualities that attracts buyers to the area.

Natasha said: “It is very close to the beach with a lovely walk along to Felpham and Bognor town centre – it is close to lots of amenities and is quieter and more exclusive than Felpham and other coastal villages.”

Unlike the nearby town and villages Natasha explained that Middleton-on-Sea is more residential rather than being a holiday destination.

“When you sit on the beach it is much quieter and more exclusive.

“The village offers so much charm and it is very quaint but still within walking distance to the other villages.”

Prices for properties in the area start from £90,000 for a retirement property up to £1,450,000 luxury sea from home.

“The area is popular with buyers retiring from London and Surrey, dog lovers, and mature couples,” Natasha said.

House style varies but a particularly popular road Natasha says is Sea Lane which has a range of different properties ranging from 1920s homes to more modern styles.

“There are lots of private roads and estates too so very quiet and exclusive,” she added.

“It is such a beautiful area with a good variation of properties and lots going on.”
