The Friends of Chichester Hospitals have received a generous anonymous gift of £10,000, delivered in a plain envelope, with no clue to the thoughtful donor’s identity.

The charity, based at St Richard's Hospital, works to make sure staff have the best equipment available to treat and care for patients, a patient’s hospital stay is as comfortable as possible, patients, staff and visitors are served by the hospital shop and ward trolleys.

“We are amazed and delighted – it was a wonderful surprise to open the envelope and find a gift of such a huge amount enclosed,” said Friends’ chairman Jane Ramage.

"Although our activities are currently restricted because of Covid 19 precautions, the Friends remain ready to support our hospitals and we have been able to donate

several hundred toiletry amenity packs of shampoo, soap, toothbrush etc for staff having to remain at the hospital overnight because they are unable to go home.

"We are also working on other ways that we can offer support to the hospital and fantastic staff at St Richard's during this challenging time. The gift will help to offset the shortfall in our income during the period we have sadly had to temporarily close our hospital shop and trolley service. We expect donations to be down for a while, so this really makes a difference for us.

"We cannot thank the mystery donor enough – it’s wonderful to have such kind support, and we will always remember this wonderful donation. It’s a real boost at a difficult time, and will help us to make a difference for patients and staff.”
