Covid-19 spike in Selsey - Primary school reports two positive cases

Two people have tested positive for Covid-19 at Seal Primary Academy in Selsey.

It comes after the town saw a significant spike in cases in the second week of June.

According to the latest government figures, rates of positive Covid cases in Selsey have risen by 316 per cent from 55.8 to 232.3.

"One of the 'bubbles' has already returned and the school has remained open for all other pupils."

The Chichester district recorded 77 cases in the seven days to June 15, a rate of 63.6 per 100,000 people. This was up from 30 cases and a rate of 24.8, the previous week. Read more hereA spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said: “There has been recent increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Selsey. The cases have been followed up and investigated; additional control measures have been put in place in the locations affected.

“Please remember if anyone develops Covid-19 symptoms they should self-isolate immediately and book a free test as soon as possible at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.

“Anyone with symptoms of coronavirus which are a high temperature, a new continuous cough, a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste, must self-isolate and are encouraged to book a test at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or by calling 119."

The council is also encouraging people to regularly test with the rapid lateral flow devices (LFDs), 'even if they don’t have symptoms'.

"You can collect your test kits from Boots and Lloyds Pharmacies or Selsey Library," the spokesperson added. "Please remember to register your result.

“If you receive a positive result, with an LFD test, it’s important that you follow this up with a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. You can order a PCR test kit to be sent to your home or book an appointment at a walk-in or drive-through test site at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
