Abby said: “I created Agnes Walker as I wanted to broaden the offering, keeping the focus on bridal headpieces and accessories, but widen it to include jewellery and hair accessories suitable for a range of occasions.”

The business is named after one of Abby’s great-grandmothers on her mothers side.

She said: “I never met her; she died before I was born, nevertheless ‘Gran’ was a compelling figure in family folklore. Her long life spanned 98 years from the mid-Victorian period to the 1960s: a century of great change in our culture and of enormous fascination to me.

The last year brought huge challenges for Abby’s business with the majority of weddings in 2020 being postponed or scaled back.

Abby said: “It has required me to rethink both my design offering and my marketing approach.

“I’ve really enjoyed connecting with more non-wedding clients over this period, but I can’t wait to have my diary filled again with bridal design appointments.

“I’m getting ready to welcome customers back to my home studio from the start of May.”

Inspiration for Abby’s work comes from a number of places - art, fashion and history.

She said: “I’m an academic historian by background, with a research background in late 19th and early 20th century cultural history, so I think I bring this interest into my designs and curation.”
