MOTORISTS in Chichester are bracing themselves for 14 weeks of disruptions with major roadworks along Cathedral Way set to begin today (Monday, January 12).
West Sussex County Council said the work, also on Fishbourne Road East, will make it quicker and easier to reach the Tesco Extra superstore.
Work during the daytime hours will take place between 7.30am and 5pm and though Cathedral Way will remain open throughout, the it will be narrowed so motorists are being advised to find alternative routes during peak hours to avoid congestion.
The parents of every pupil at Bishop Luffa School have been emailed by head teacher Nick Taunt to warn that the work ‘may affect your journey to school’.
Tesco will remain open throughout, though traffic travelling out of Chichester along Cathedral Way will not be able to turn right to access the store while the works starts. Drivers will have to go around the A27 Fishbourne Roundabout and back onto Cathedral Way instead.
The work is anticipated to be finished by late April.
