He wanted to give something back to the neurology services, which has looked after the daughter of a friend.

Jonathan said: “Over the Easter weekend, I challenged myself to a run and cycle around Sussex and eventually down to Exeter for Southampton Hospital’s children’s neurological ward.

“The challenge started with a run around all the locations in Sussex where I have lived, going from Fontwell to South Lancing, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Chichester and Fishbourne. This was followed by a cycle from Fishbourne to Exeter – all this in four days.”

“The children’s neurosurgery unit has looked after a very special little lady called Edith, the daughter of a friend of ours who teaches and lives in Bognor Regis.”

Edith, who will be one in May, was born with a heart and brain condition. She has had heart surgery and had two benign tumours removed from her brain.

Jonathan added: “Edith is currently living with hydrocephalus and other complications.

“All throughout this, she has been cared for by the ward, who have helped both Edith and her mum and dad while she was there for seven months.

“Edith has so far spent precious little time in her own home and travelling to all my former homes seemed a fitting tribute.”

The challenge started in Fontwell at 7.30am on Wednesday, March 23, and finished in Exeter at 2.30pm on Saturday, March 26. Jonathan ran a total of 50 miles around Sussex and cycled 150 miles from Fishbourne to Exeter, raising more than £750.
