A 28 year old man from London died after his red Ford Mondeo car left the A285 at Upwaltham in the early hours of this morning (Monday, February 15) and overturned in a field.
A police spokesman said the man, who was the only casualty, died at the scene.
Police said the single vehicle crash happened at around 3.30am today.
The road links Chichester and Petworth and the crash occurred close to its junction with Droke Lane.
It was closed to traffic until 1.45pm while the scene was investigated.
The road was named the most dangerous road in the UK in a report by the Road Safety Foundation in November 2014.
Today’s crash was the third fatal accident on the stretch of road since 2013.
A teenage girl died at Halnaker in a single vehicle crash and two elderly women died at Upwaltham in a second crash three weeks later.
Anyone who saw the incident, or noticed the car being driven beforehand, is asked to email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 101, quoting Operation Papworth.
The coroner for West Sussex has been informed.
