IT WAS the ‘icing on the cake’ today (August 14), as Chichester College celebrated a 99-per-cent A-level pass rate.

Students flocked to the college from 8.30am to pick up their results, with many thrilled when they opened the envelopes.

It was a nervous start to the day for teenagers waiting to see what the future held.

“I felt like I was going to throw up and had butterflies in my stomach,” said 18-year-old Natasha Websdale, who gained three B grades in media, graphic design and photography. She is off to study media production at Bournemouth University.

Her friend Imogen Murphy, 18, got A grades for photography and graphic design and a B grade for geography. She is heading to Southampton Solent University to study photography.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Danielle Jackson is heading to Cambridge’s Kings College to study Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic.

“I was surprised – I didn’t think I would get my grades. I thought I had failed the classics,” she said.

She said she was ‘over the moon’ and ‘ecstatic’ to get her place at Cambridge and was looking forward to two months of relaxing before the start of university.

College staff were thrilled to see the students getting their grades.

“It’s been absolutely fantastic,” said assistant principal Helen Loftus.

“On a day like today we feel nothing but enormous pride about what they have achieved.”

Speaking of the outstanding Ofsted report earlier this year, she said: “This is the icing on the cake I think.”
