THE A27 was closed near Hambrook this evening after a collision between a car and a motorbike.

The collision happened at 5.10pm (August 26) on the westbound carriageway.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said the female motorcyclist was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth with serious injuries.

The occupants of the car were uninjured.

Police shut a stretch of the A27 while they investigated the scene.

With the A27 westbound closed since the accident, traffic has reportedly been tailing back as far as Littlehampton.

The road is now open again after a rolling road block was put in place.
