Around 40 youngsters from the 461 Chichester Air Training Corps will take part in the ceremony and accompanying celebrations starting at 5pm at Tangmere Museum.

The squadron will then pass the torch to cadets from Storrington as it continues its anniversary journey from John O’’Groats to Lands End.

Squadron adjutant Kerry Harnes said the relay was ‘almost Olympic style’, although the model ‘torch’ is not lit.

“It’s very exciting,” she said. “The band should be playing and we have some stalls with different activities, so lots for the public to do on the day.”

The torch’s journey can be followed on Twitter under #ATC75torch.
