IT’S the big Christmas light switch-on in Chichester tonight (Thursday, November 28), so here’s your guide for a sparkling evening!
Make sure you visit our website tomorrow for video coverage of the event!
Festivities in the city will kick off from 4pm with a visit from Santa in the city centre and street entertainment.
From 6.30pm there will be a community carol concert at the cathedral green, featuring the New Community Rock Choir, several school choirs and Petworth City Band.
The choir will sing seven carols – and make sure you buy a copy of the Observer for the carol sheet so you can join in.
During the last carol, the Dean of Chichester will make his way through the choir and to the Market Cross to bless the Christmas tree.
As this will be the Dean’s last Christmas in Chichester due to his retirement, the community will thank him for his service over the years.
At 7pm the lights will be switched on by the mayor of Chichester and John Lewis at Home manager Claire Dunkason, followed by fireworks over the city.
It proves to be a spectacular event – so don’t miss out.
It will also be the first late-night shopping evening where shops will open until 8pm, so you can even get a bit of Christmas shopping done while you’re in the festive spirit.
