Appeal after sword attack in Selsey

A man and a woman were left needing hospital treatment after being attacked by a man wielding a sword in an alleyway in Selsey.

The incident happened in Lawrence Close at around 6.20pm on Wednesday, February 17, police said.

The victims sustained cuts and bruises and were taken by ambulance to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester for treatment.

The woman was later allowed home but the man remained in hospital, Sussex Police said on Thursday.

A police spokesperson said: “None of the injuries are considered life-threatening or life-changing. Those involved are known to each other.”

Officers searched the area and several hours later, following further enquiries, located the suspect in King’s Road, Brighton.

A 52-year-old man from Selsey has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A weapon believed to have been used in the attack has been recovered.
