Refuse collectors are catching up with the bins which haven’t been emptied because of the stormy weather.
Chichester District Council is asking people to leave their bins out so they can be collected.
“Thank you to residents for your patience and understanding as we resume bin collections this morning,” said councillor Heather Caird, leader of Chichester District Council.
“It was really important for safety reasons that residents kept their bins out of the roads and exposed locations when the stormy weather was at its height. All crews are out and catching up on the normal collection schedule.”
Council staff opened an emergency rest centre at the Selsey Centre last night and helped one family who needed accommodation and had been forced to evacuate from their caravan.
Council staff have been checking the district’s sea defences, parks and open spaces, and clearing trees and debris from council car parks.
Chichester District Council offices are open as normal.
