A MOTHER and daughter have successfully completed an abseil down the Spinnaker Tower.

Gina Quest, 26, and mum Jenny, a teacher at Birdham Primary School, abseiled on Sunday (June 22) to raise sponsorship for Sailing for Disabled at Langstone Sailing Club.

“It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect conditions for a perfect day,” said Jenny.

“We ascended Spinnaker Tower to be kitted out for the descent.

“The views were amazing, but it looked a long way down.

“The adrenalin was really pumping by this stage.”

The pair were part of a group of five raising money for Sailing for Disabled and as a group they left the viewing platform and assembled by the exit – ready to descend 300ft to the ground.

“We had a great crowd who turned out to support us and both Gina and I found that after stepping off the platform, we really enjoyed the downward journey accompanied by the cheers of those down below us.”

Gina added the descent had been ‘electrifying’.

They are hoping to raise about £1,500 for the charity and said they were very grateful for everyone’s donations so far.

Anyone still wishing to contribute can send a cheque to Jenny Quest, c/o Birdham Primary School, Crooked Lane, Birdham, Chichester PO20 7HB or visit and enter HADSAD as the charity.
