Blueprints revealed for 269 Southbourne homes

MORE than 200 new homes could be coming to Southbourne after a trio of planning applications were submitted to Chichester District Council.

As a settlement hub, Southbourne looks set to take around 300 homes in Chichester District Council’s local plan and the parish council has been working to find the best possible places for the developments.

The first application for 127 homes is proposed for land north of the A259 Main Road and west of Inland Road, in Soutbourne.

The next application is for 112 homes for land on the south side of Cooks Lane.

Finally, a development of 30 homes could be built at Loveders camping and caravan site, in Inlands Road.

Parish council chairman Chris Bulbeck said: “We know we’ve got to have the houses.”

He said hundreds of people had turned out for presentations on the proposed developments in the past year, with the total number across the meetings about 1,000.

“It’s a big thing to take on,” added Cllr Bulbeck.

“Every parish is looking at it. We’re doing very well. We’ve got a good team.

“The parish councillors are working well together.”

The proposed Cooks Lane development for 112 homes has been made by Seaward Properties, and covers a 290sqm field, currently used for paddocks for horses.

Seaward said in its design and access statement: “The site is well placed to provide development without detrimental visual impact on the surrounding landscape and character of Southbourne.

“It has good access to the 
existing village facilities which are situated within a relatively-short walking distance.

“The development of the Paddocks site will form an extension to the Southbourne settlement and enable integration with the village by extending the existing recreational facilities.”

Seaward is also responsible for the other two developments proposed for Southbourne 
this week.

Regarding the 127-home application, the developer said: “Local residents have been encouraged to provide their views of, and suggestions for the proposed development and the proposals have been amended in response to comments received.”

It said a number of points had been taken on board by getting feedback from residents and the plans amended accordingly

If the Chichester District Local Plan receives approval from a government inspector, Southbourne will have to provide 300 homes during the next 15 years.
