Teresa Flexer, community pioneer at the Queen Street store, said: "We have been working together with local resident Sandra Sear since February 2016. She has worked extremely hard, rewriting and publishing the book about her brother, founder member of co-operatives in Italy."

The book, which describes Roy's adventures and misadventures in 'an alien society', has been described as a 'must-read', not only for co-operators but for anyone with an interest in international social history and Italian society.

Sandra said: "Roy's work in founding the first Agricultural Producers' Co-operative in Monferrato not only transformed the peasants' lot but changed his life and outlook, too. It taught him more clearly to understand friendship, the give and take of it."

Signor Roy was first published in 1965 and had been long out of print. When the United Nations declared 2012 as International Year of Cooperatives, it was seen as a great opportunity to raise global awareness of the movement’s pioneers, so Sandra paid for it to be republished.
