Slindon College pupil Charlie Wreford, eight, came up with a character called Bubble King, which wowed the judges and claimed first prize for his school.

He was presented with his prize, which included a framed copy of his design, during assembly on Monday.

The schools competition was organised by CJS Portsmouth, a cleaning and hygiene company that works closely with major manufacturers and is the leading supplier across the south coast.

The Design a Hygiene Character competition has been running in primary schools for the last couple of months to highlight the importance of hand hygiene.

Pupils were asked to draw a character they felt would be good to combat germs.

The character had to be drawn on to a dispenser template, with the view to the winning design being put on the dispensers at the winning school and on those issued to primary school customers.

The judging marked Global Handwashing Day, which was held on October 15.

As part of his winning design, Charlie decided his Bubble King character would have the catchphrase ‘put your sleeves up coz Bubble King’s here’.

Slindon Primary School was very excited about the prize presentation and Charlie’s parents were invited along to watch.
