AS ALDI announces its imminent arrival in Chichester, fellow German supermarket Lidl says it hopes to be on the move shortly too.
Rumours had persisted that Chichester’s Lidl store, which is currently based in Portfield Way, was also eyeing up one of the vacant units on the soon-to-be-built Barnfield Drive retail park.
It has already been confirmed Aldi, Halfords and Wickes will take up some of the newly-built units, but news on the other stores is yet to be confirmed.
However, Lidl appeared to initially dismiss a move to Barnfield Drive but did say it might not be in its current home much longer.
“We are interested in a number of sites in the Chichester area to relocate our store to, and provide a full upgrade, however we have no firm plans in place yet,” said a spokeswoman when asked by the Observer if it was planning to join Aldi on Barnfield Drive.
The Brookhouse Group, which is building the new retail park, said a new store for the park could be announced in early 2016.
