A NEW app has been launched to help homebuyers find a house that will not be flooded.
Jason Hedges and Daniel Mellor are the men behind Sighthound Productions and have launched an app – Flood Risk Finder – that could prove invaluable to potential home-buyers.
“You can search by address, house number, postcode,” said Jason.
“It will categorise you. You get a visual confirmation it’s in the right place by a map.”
They are linked in with the Environment Agency’s flood maps, which categorise areas into different flood-risk areas.
Jason, speaking from his home in West Wittering, said the app had now been rolled out across England for iPhones and android phones.
He said it was due to become even more comprehensive as soon it would incorporate surface water flooding – at the moment it shows tidal flooding and river flooding.
Jason said as the months go by, the app, which is available for 79p, would become increasingly comprehensive.
“It’s totally exciting because it’s the first app that we’ve done and it is out there,” he said.
“We’ve had a few people download it already.
“The thing is, it looks really good aesthetically – it’s really simple, very clean.”
Jason said the pair hoped their new app could help new home-buyers and renters around the country.
“Estate agents don’t flag up if it’s been flooded in the past,” he said.
“It’s another tool to give people a more informed position when you’re buying or renting a house.
He said Portsmouth north MP Penny Mordaunt had also given her backing to the scheme.
