Plans are being finalised for a new surgery on the site of the former Emsworth Victoria Cottage Hospital.
A survey of 650 people carried out by the Emsworth Forum revealed the majority – 80 per cent – would like to see additional services such as physiotherapy, blood tests and a minor injury unit on the site.
Chairwoman of the forum Stephanie Elsy wrote to the NHS commissioning body, South Eastern Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group, to request they consider the extra services and carry out a full needs assessment.
Dr Barbara Rushton, chairwoman of the group, has now offered to meet with the Emsworth Forum to discuss the forthcoming development of the new surgery.
Stephanie said: “We are very pleased Dr Rushton has offered to meet us. The new surgery is much needed and our survey showed overwhelming support for additional community health services to be provided on this site.
“We are encouraged the CCG intend to make sure future health service needs of the area will be considered and catered for. We have a growing and an ageing population and many patients find it difficult to access services in Emsworth and elsewhere.”
Emsworth Surgery will be taking over the hospital site and doctors there have been holding meetings with councillors and Havant MP Alan Mak.
