Car parking charges to be introduced at Chichester Rugby Club

The car park, which was previously not open for public use, has been improved by the club and now they are offering competitive parking charges to commuters in the area.

However, the introduction of the ‘pay and display’ car park means current club members who previously parked for free will now have to pay the charges along with members of the public.

West Sussex County Council approved the plan at a meeting on Tuesday, June 14, agreeing that the proposal will reduce the amount of on-street parking to the north of Chichester.

West Sussex County Council’s Pieter Montyn said: “Anything that helps create another 100 car parking spaces should be encouraged.”

The car park has been adapted for the use of long stay for commuters, set at a lower tariff than other off-street parking – such as the Northgate car park and at the southern end of Oaklands Park.

The charges will be set at 50p for one hour, with a 50p increase for each additional hour.

Over five hours will be £3, and the charging hours will apply from 9am until 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday.

The car park will be closed for public use on rugby match days.
