Manager Samantha Kewell said: “We hold a host of activities throughout the year to keep residents mentally and physically stimulated. Many of the events involve bringing the outside community into the home.

“Over the next few months, Augusta Court will be organising a horse racing afternoon and our summer fair.

“Care Home Open Day is part of this packed activities programme. We’re really proud of what we have achieved over the last year. We wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the fantastic life our residents have here.”

Church Farm Care Home, in Church Farm Lane, East Wittering, is hosting a buffet lunch with a friendship theme.

Residents have been encouraged to ‘invite a friend’ and people living nearby are welcome to join them for lunch. Telephone 01243 672999 to book.

Old and new members of staff have been invited to a tree-planting ceremony at 11am to launch the event.

A tree of friendship will be placed in the grounds to help remember all the good friends the home has made over the years.

Home manager Doreen Saunders said: “We will be bringing everyone together in the afternoon in a community spirit for musical entertainment, fun and laughter and the usual Church Farm hospitality.”

Pinewood Nursing Home, in Cot Lane, Chidham, is open from 11am to 4.30pm, with music with Sarah Povey launching the event.

Pip Holliday, clerical officer, said: “This year’s theme is friendship and we have a number of activities, including a cake sale in aid of Gundog Rescue and PAT Dogs, and a quiz on the theme dogs are a man’s best friend.

“The aim of the day is to promote care and nursing homes as part of the local community. While happy to be supporting this national event, Pinewood is a friendly, family-run home and we welcome visitors all year round.”

Friends and supporters are invited to take in their dogs to show residents and photos of residents’ and staff members’ dogs will be on display.
