Charles Avenue hosts fun day
Residents from Charles Avenue in Chichester held a family fun day last weekend.
The event, which was organised by Charles Avenue Resident Engagement (CARE) is the first community fun day held by Charles Avenue.
The family fun day was supported by the housing association Affinity Sutton.
The organisers hope that this will be the first of many such events to be held throughout the year, as the residents association have been working tirelessly to help strengthen a sense of community.
Tracy Watkins, event organiser, and founder of the residents group, said: “We had the bubble fun man come along to put on a show, as well as a Princess Party, which was attended by Elsa from Frozen and Spiderman.
“We also had a raffle, face painting, cakes, fancy dress and the Library bus came along to do storytime.
“Sussex Police, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.
“The police came along and used the speed monitor to measure the kids’ running times, which the children loved.
“The Weald & Downland Open Air Museum came along and showed people how to make corn dollies.
“There was also a bike and scooter workshop.
“We had a Zumba class, and it was great to see the firemen taking part in this.
“We had quite a few people turn up, and positive remarks from people who are looking forward to more events in the future.
“We’re now hoping to host an event for Halloween.
“We want every resident of Charles Avenue to come together, and have fun and make new friends.
“It is really important to feel you are part of a community and not feel you are alone”.
The event was also put on in partnership with West Sussex County Council, Chichester District Council and Sustrans.
