Colleagues were quick to praise her, with advice centre supervisor Carole Nicholls saying: “Yvonne has been such an integral part of the bureau for so long, it’s impossible to imagine it without her.

“She has been a dedicated adviser, incredibly helpful to both the volunteer advisers and her clients.

“We will all miss her.”

Administrator Louise Flude added: “Yvonne is a warm, kind lady who is loved by everyone who has worked with her at the CAB.

“She has seen many changes over the years and has been able to adapt and keep up with the latest technology, while never forgetting that helping her clients is paramount.

“She is an example to us all.”

Meanwhile chief executive Carol Groves also thanked Yvonne, saying the CAB could not run without its volunteers.

She said Yvonne had taken all the changes and challenges of the past 50 years in her stride.

“As an adviser she was very committed to the CAB in helping and supporting the numerous clients she saw,” she said.

“She will be greatly missed by us all.”

Yvonne started at the CAB in June 1965 - looking for something to keep her busy while her children were at school.

Yvonne added: “My children were just starting school and I was looking for something to do.

“My elderly neighbours started the CAB in Chichester and I had no idea what it was.

“I went to the first lectures then to an interview and was told I’d got the job.”

Yvonne, who has also worked as a doorkeeper at Chichester Cathedral for two years, said she had fond memories from her time at the CAB.
