A NEW mental health centre was opened in Chichester this week.

The £3.4m Chichester Centre for inpatient service was formally opened by John Bacon, chairman of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

He said: “For too long people who need this kind of care have had to be sent outside Sussex.

“Now with the new wards at the Chichester Centre, we can help the people of Sussex, within Sussex.

“The development has improved the environment for people who use this service and for the staff who provide care and support.

“On behalf of everyone involved I am delighted to declare the centre open.”

The scheme has expanded the facilities available for vulnerable patients who need to be supported.

The new additions include three wards with secure gardens and therapy space in the former Centurion Mental Health Centre on Graylingwell Drive.

Work began in August 2011 and was completed this month.
