Chichester College lecturer receives MBE at Buckingham Palace

An inspirational Chichester College lecturer was honoured to receive his MBE this week during a special service at Buckingham Palace.

Christian Notley was presented with the Member of the Order of the British Empire by the Duke of Cambridge on Tuesday (October 11), after he was included in the Queen’s Birthday Honours earlier this year.

Christian is the UK WorldSkills training manager for cabinet making and has coached two British entrants – both former Chichester College students - to gold at successive competitions.

He was honoured for his services to WorldSkills at Leipzig 2013 and Sao Paulo 2015.

Christian revealed he exchanged a few words with Prince William as he collected his medal.

He said: “Prince William commented that – as a cabinet maker - I must be very good with my hands and we had a short conversation about WorldSkills.

“He was impressed that the UK is the best in the world for cabinet making and seemed very interested in the competition.

“It was a very special day. I was feeling rather nervous beforehand, but we received some guidance before we were invited in to receive our awards. I feel extremely honoured.”

Christian was joined at the palace by many other luminaries such as Sir Rod Stewart, who was collecting a knighthood.
