The Company also held a competition and one Chichester College student was in the running for a prize.

Paul Ferris, a level three apprentice currently employed by Rolls Royce, was ‘Highly Commended’ for his beautiful television cabinet made from olive ash.

Chichester College lecturer Christian Notley MBE accompanied the students.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for students to show their work and to meet members of the Company, allowing them a chance to make connections with employers in the industry.

“We were delighted to be able to take several pieces to the Furniture Makers’ Hall and the icing on the cake was Paul’s award.

“He was up against university students and graduates – all of the highest standard – so to be highly commended is a fantastic achievement.”

The evening also bought more good news for Christian himself, as he was invited to become a liveryman for the Company.

It’s an honour that will see him become a full member of the Company, and follows on from his recent MBE.

Christian added: “It is a great honour to be asked to become a liveryman.

“The Furniture Makers’ Company are extremely proactive in the industry and they have been very supportive of the college and our students.
