A globe-trotting Chichester resident celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this month at the Marriot House care home.
Constance Osborn, known to many as Connie, was born on December 14, 1911, and the Marriot House care home decided to put on a birthday bash for Connie, which included an opera display.
Connie’s son, Robert, said: “My mother has been here for about a year and a half and she’s very happy and very comfortable here. I did not think it was a good idea to take her out of the home for her birthday, because she is so used to it, but the Marriot sorted out everything and she was very happy.”
Connie was born in North Shields, near Newcastle, but has spent the majority of her life in the Chichester area. She married Den Osborn in 1938, Connie later gave birth to her only child, Robert, in 1939.
One of her hobbies included travelling, which she used to do with her husband.
Robert described his mother, Connie, as a very independent woman, who looked after herself very well.
“She was on her own until she was 98 years old after my father died, and she always wanted to do things for herself.”
In light of Connie’s 100th birthday, she received a card from the Queen.
