Chichester home to open its doors to the lonely at Christmas

A care home in Chichester will open its doors on Boxing Day to any elderly people who would otherwise be alone at Christmas.

Marriott House and Lodge Care Home, in Tollhouse Close, is inviting people to join them on December 26 between 10am and 12pm, and 2pm to 4pm.

A spokesperson for the home said: “Marriott House and Lodge Care home, along with Community Christmas, believe that no elderly person in the UK should be alone at Christmas unless they want to be.

“Communities are encouraged to provide companionship to older people over the Christmas period, with this in mind, Marriott House and Lodge Care home will be opening their doors on Boxing day from 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm.

“This will be a chance to participate in activities within the home, meet new friends and have some Christmas refreshments.

“The sessions will aid the forming of new friendships and create bonds in the community that last well beyond the single day.”
