Chichester mayor’s final fling for Whyke Estate

A ‘FINAL fling’ will raise money for community facilities.

Outgoing Chichester city mayor Anne Scicluna is hosting The Mayor’s Final Fling, an informal soiree and buffet, to help raise funds for facilities on the Whyke Estate.

“Some years ago this estate was very run down and there was considerable vandalism and bad behaviour,” said Cllr Scicluna.

“However, the residents decided they had to do something about this and got together to raise their home area into something in which they now take great pride.

“The central green has been transformed by a path across it, tree planting, seats and a bandstand-like building where people can sit and chat.

“However, it is the only estate in the city with no community facilities.”

Residents are now in talks with an architect and the housing association.

Cllr Scicluna is fundraising for equipment once the building is completed.

The event will take place on Friday, May 10, from 7.30pm for a 8pm start.

It will be held at The Assembly Room, in North Street, Chichester. There will be an auction and grand raffle. Tickets, priced £18, are available from The Council House, in North Street, Chichester, or by calling 01243 788502.
