A group of young parents from Chichester have been the first to complete bronze level of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The Young Parent Programme decided to take part in the award which involves volunteering, learning a new skill, physical activity and finally, a two-day expedition.
Helen Rudgwick, mum to Rhys, said she was keen to ‘challenge the preconceptions that people have about young parents by achieving something positive’.
Eight young parents and their children attended the final expedition on July 13 at Avon Tyrrell in the New Forest. They were required to plan a route and walk for six hours per day, while navigating their own journey using a map, all while attending to their young children.
The group, which is a joint venture by a Chichester family centre and a youth support service, meets every Friday, and anyone interested in joining should contact Caroline on 01243 642950.
