Chichester projects receive £20,000 from BBC Children in Need

Chichester Information Shop for Young People and Home Start Chichester and District received £10,000 each, meaning the charity now funds six projects in West Sussex.

The Chichester Information Shop for Young People will use the money to provide a drop-in service for locals aged 13 through 18 who are experiencing mental health issues and abuse.

Over the next year, funding will help cover the salary of a coordinator and outreach worker who will provide professional one to one counselling and emotional support to young people.

Home Start Chichester and District will use the funds to deliver support services that improve dynamics within the whole family to enhance the lives of children in their early years.

A representative from Home Start Chichester and District said: “We were absolutely thrilled when we found out we would receive this funding.

“We couldn’t exist with out these sorts of donations from BBC Children in Need.”

The grant helps to fund the role of a coordinator who recruits, trains and mentors 25 volunteers to work with local families facing a number of economic and social challenges.

Speaking of the new grants, Pam Bacon, BBC Children in Need regional officer of the south and west said: “BBC Children in Need funds organisations supporting disadvantaged children and young people across the UK, and we are so pleased to include Chichester Information Shop for Young People and Home Start Chichester & District within this.

“Through their application, the organisation demonstrated the tangible impact that their activities can have on those that need it and we look forward to seeing their work in action.”

BBC Children in Need are looking to increase its support in West Sussex and they are inviting organisations to an information session being held from 10am until 1pm on June 16 at The Town Hall in Haywards Heath.

Projects working with disadvantaged children and young people are encouraged to come along and meet BBC Children in Need regional officer for the south and west, Pam Bacon, who will be on hand to welcome potential applicants, as well as answer questions and talk through proposals.
